A BOOK ON (MEDICINE IN TAMIL LITERATURE) “ILAKKIYATHIL MARUTHUVAM” FROM VADAMALAYAN VAANAVIL

Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences, a unit of Vadamalayan Hospitals conducted first World level Tamil Conference on Hospital Management called Vaanavil on 13.09.2008.  A research paper titled “Ilakkiyathil Maruthuvam (Medicine in Tamil Literature)” was submitted by Prof.S.Ganesan on that occasion.  He further developed the collection of literature on the same topic and wrote a book “Illakkiayathil Maruthuvam”. 

The book was released on 26.04.2009 at Ramasamy Tamil College, Karaikudi in the presence of Dr.Swaminathan, Principal cum Secretary Shri Vidhyagiri Matric School and Prof.N.Subramaniyam, Treasurer, Tamil Writers Association.  The function was presided over by Prof.T.Jeyarajsekar, Principal, Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences.

The Book was released by Mr.P.Veerappan Secretary, Ramasamy Tamil College and the first copy was received by Dr.M.Pandi, Head, Tamil Department, Alagappa University, Karaikudi.  Mr.K.Rameshkumar welcomed the gathering.   In his presidential address Prof.T.Jeyarajsekar stressed the importance of tamil literature on health care and Hospital Management.  Author of this book Prof.S.Ganesan narrated how the book is evolved and recalled the memory of motivation given by the Vadamalayan Hospitals.

Health care opportunities

Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences, a unit of fifty years old Vadamalayan Hospitals organized an “Awareness Programme for self Help group on Health care opportunities” at Kalanjiam trust offices of Madurai District from 17.04.2009 to 20.04.2009.

The awareness programmes conducted at Cholavanthan salai vattar Kalanjiam, Palamedu Vattara Kalanjiam and Kottampatti pengal Vattara Kalanjiam.  Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar, Principal Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences presided over the function.  Smt.P.Chinnapillai, President Kalanjiam and Mrs.A.Thayammal, Vice President Kalanjiam felicitates the programme.  More than 500 members are participated.

WORLD HEALTH DAY-AWARENESS PROGRAM AT VADAMALAYAN HOSPITALS

 “Save Lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies” is the theme for world health day 2009. Vadamalayan Hospitals and Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences have jointly organized an awareness program aiming at enlightening the public on how to tackle emergencies.

During medical emergencies arising due to accidents, trauma, sudden illness, natural and man-made disasters the level of panic among our people has proven detrimental for the treatment. This happens due to the lack of awareness about what to do next in those critical hours.

The meeting was presided over by Dr.V.Pugalagiri, managing director of Vadamalayan Hospitals. In his speech he explained the important role of medical and paramedical personnel during medical emergencies and how they have to equip themselves with safe emergency practices.

Prof. T.Jeyarajasekar, Principal, Vadamalayan institute of Paramedical Sciences welcomed and spoke about the necessity of this awareness program.

Dr.K.Muralidharan Consultant Head, Department of Emergency Medicine delivered a lecture on “Tackle Emergencies” which was followed by an interactive session. Dr,.K.Muralidharan in his lecture concentrated mainly on how to establish safe practices during emergencies.

Mrs.S.Hemalakshmi, Event Manager, Vadamalayan hospitals delivered vote of thanks and insisted  the importance of maintaining and implementing safe protocols for medical emergencies.

“Awareness Programme on Medical Insurance”

We organized awareness programme “Insurance Claims” for Primary School Teachers during their training programme lunch break at Government Primary School, Alanganallur, on 12.30 P.M – 1.30 P.M, 13.03.2009.   

Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar, Principal Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences presided over the function. In his Presidential address he listed out the plans of medical Insurance Schemes and the benefit of those schemes.

Mr.Jeyakumar, Claims Manager, Vadamalayan Hospitals in his address elaborated the objectives and the importance of Medical insurance.             Mr. M. Arikrishnan, Regional Co-ordinator, Star Health Insurance and Mr. M. Krishnakumar, Co-ordinator, Star Health Insurance cleared the doubts of the teachers on Mediclaim.

WOMEN’S DAY FOR THE WOMEN WORKING FOR WOMEN

We decided to stage “World Women’s Day” in its campus for the women who are all serving for women in the presence of Smt.P.ChinnaPillai who is working for women empowerment on 08.03.2009 at 8. 30 A.M to 4.30 P.M in our Conference Hall.

We requested and got the list of sixty six performing village health workers, in the blocks of Kallanthiri, Samayanallur, Alanganallur, Katchaikatti, Karungalakudi, Vellalore, Thiruparankundram, Kallikudi, T.Kallupatti, Chekkayurani, Chellampatti, Thottappanayakanoor and Elumalai from the Deputy Director (Health) Madurai and we organized this world women’s day function for them.

The students of Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences entertained the gathering with Quiz, Talk show, Debate, Game show, music chair, and the lecture on women and child health.

Ms. P.Aiyeswari tutor, Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical sciences welcomes the gathering.  Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar, Co – ordinator of this event and Principal of Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences presented the event report.  Through his event report he pointed out that the education is the sword to fight against the inequality and he told about the courses offered at Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences which are exclusively offering for the female. Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan presided over the function. In this presidential address he expressed his proud on the pride women who are all he met in his life path.

In the Inaugural session Srimathi.P.Chinnapillai President Kalangiyam felicitated In her felicitation address she narrated above the hurdles which she passed and how she achieved the award “Shakti Puraskar”.  She explained the mixed way of inconvenience and sweetness between the paths of puluseri to puraskar.  Mrs.A.Thayammal Vice President. Kalangiyam briefed about the functions and the achievements of her organization.  Mrs. C.Hemalakshmi Event Manager, Vadamalayan Hospitals explained about the Mother and Child care. The Event continued till 4.30 P.M with lot of fun the valedictory function.  Dr.A.Palanisamy Deputy Director, Madurai Distributed the prizes for the winners of the competition.  In his speech he necessitated the importance of women in the Primary Health Care. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs.P.Niraimathy, student of MBA Health Service Management.

SEMINAR ON HEALTH CARE OPPORTUNITIES

We organized a seminar on Health Care Opportunities for the Higher Secondary Final years students of Madurai, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar Districts.  The team led by Prof.T.Jeyararjasekar Principal, Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences consisted with Ms.P.Aiyeswari and Mrs.E. Ruby Shantha Sheela.  It put this plan into action from dawn to dask of the various schools campus. The plan originated at MLWA Higher Secondary School from 21.01.2009 onwards. It was formally inaugurated by Dr.V.Pugalagiri Managing Director, Vadamalayan Hospitals. The boundary of the seminar programme reached Sivaganga District on 23.01.2009 Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar addressed at Shambavika Higher secondary school, K.R Higher secondary school, Government Girls Higher secondary school Government Higher secondary school for the gathering of final year school students with the able support of Ms.P.Aiyeswari, Ms.Kala, Ms.Mahalakshmi, Ms.Janani, Ms.Kanitha and Mr.Kadhar. On 27.01.2009 the same team approached  Mannar Higher secondary school Sivaganga, St.Justin Girls Higher secondary school Sivaganga, Government Girls higher secondary school Manamadurai, OVC Higher secondary school Manamadurai, Government higher secondary school Edaikattur, Government Higher secondary school Thiruppachetti, Government Girls Higher secondary school Manamadurai and Government Boys Higher secondary school Thiruppuvanam and pointed out the opportunities of Health care.  On the whole at Sivaganga District the content of the seminar reached  more than 2,500 students.

On 28.01.2009 the team of Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences reached  Virudhunagar District for its next round of its seminar programme.  They visited Government Higher Secondary School  Malaipatti, Government Higher secondary school Palavanatham, Sri Veerappa Vidhyalaya Higher secondary school Kullor sandhai, Government Higher secondary school Veerarpatti and Government Higher secondary school Nenmeni More than 1,000 students were benefited.   The boundary of the seminar programme extended at Madurai District on 02.02.2009 to 04.02.2009.  Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar and Prof.R.Karthirani addressed at Samayanallur, Kondayampatti, Alanganallur, M.Chatrapatti, Ilamanoor, Othakadai, A.Vallalapatti, Melur, Melavalavu, Kottanathampatti, Vellaloor, T.Vadipatti, Pandiyarajapuram, Nachikulam, Chozhavandhan, Melakkal, Sakkanurani and around Madurai  for the gathering of final year school students with the able support of Ms.P.Aiyeswari, Mrs.E.Ruby Shantha sheela, Ms.Kala, Ms.Mahalakshmi, Ms.Janani, Ms.Kanitha and Mr.Kadhar and Mr.Valan.  On the whole at Madurai District the content of the seminar reached more than 3000 students. Vadamalayan’s journey of education will continue with the objective to create awareness on healthcare job and education opportunities.

 WORLD RELIGION DAY CELEBRATION

We celebrated World Religion Day in full grandeur. Quiz competition was meticulously arranged for the college students.

Earlier the team led by Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar Principal of Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences conducted Preliminary rounds at the campus of twelve colleges from December 17 2008 to January 12 2009 and in each college they selected a pair of team for the Final round.  The team consists of Ms.P. Aiyeswari Tutor and the students of Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical sciences.  Out of 647 students 24 students were selected for the final rounds.

Students from twelve different college of Madurai arrived for the competition at 8.30 A.M on 18.01.2009. The final round of the Quiz competition was held at the Conference Hall of Vadamalayan Hospitals on 9 A.M.  It was a very colorful site to see the college students, vibrantly show casting their talents.

Results of the winners were announced and the prize distribution programme was held at the same venue.  Prof.T.Jeyarajasekar, Principal, Vadamalayan Institute of paramedical science who conducted the Quiz program put forth the report and felicitated.

Dr.V.Pugalagiri, managing director presided over the function and distributed the prize for the winners of the Quiz competition. In his speech, he emphasized the role of youth in the social integration.  He further added that Vadamalayan Hospitals as always will contribute its part to develop the community of youth.   Mrs.E.Ruby Shantha Sheela, Tutor delivered the vote of thanks.

Health Care Cordon – 2008” – Inaugural Function

We organized “Health Care Cordon 2008” a series of workshop on Hospital and Laboratory Management from December 11, 2008 to March 27, 2009.  It would be a series of eight workshops in span of four Months.   The inaugural function of “Health Care Cordon – 2008” was held at the Conference Hall of the Vadamalayan Hospitals on December 11, 2008 at 9 A.M.  It was inaugurated by Dr. S.M. Siva Kumar, Dean, Madurai Medical College.   In his felicitation address Dr. S.M. Siva Kumar pointed out the importance of health care education and health care management.

Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan, Managing director presided over the function and emphasized the necessity of healthcare standardization. He further added that Vadamalayan Hospitals as always will contribute its part in improving the healthcare academic area of Madurai.            Prof.R.Karthirani, Administrative Officer, Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences delivered the welcome address. It was a very colorful site to see huge number of enthusiastic children vibrantly showcasing their talents.

KATTRATHAI KODUPPOM INAUGURATION

            Education is one of the most powerful weapons in the fight against rural poverty and sustainable development. Unfortunately, this is also among the most neglected aspects of rural development interventions by national governments and by donors. It is widely acknowledged that farmers, with basic education, are more likely to adopt new technology, and become more productive. With basic education they are better equipped to make more informed decisions for their lives and for their communities and to be active participants in promoting economic, social and cultural dimension of development. It is equally accepted that excess rural labor has to find work outside the farm, whether in rural or urban settings, and that, without basic literacy and numeracy, individuals are unlikely to be hired for anything more than basic wage labor. Despite such evidence, illiteracy is much higher in rural than in urban areas. Moreover, although rural children and youth are the farmers of the future and most of them start farming at a very early age, their access to education in rural areas is still much lower than in urban area and the quality of their education is poorer and often irrelevant to their lives.

                For this reason Vadamalayan Institute of Paramedical Sciences launched the programme “Kattrathi koduppom” with the objective of collecting the used books from the household of urban Madurai and to provide those collected books to the rural libraries of Madurai District. We identified that rural Government library is playing the vital role in the rural education.
